Animal Courses Chesterfield

Tracey Johnston

Owner and proprietor for 25 years. Having worked in education for the last 10 years I have gained experience as a lecturer in several different colleges. I have taught on both equine and animal programmes, previously focussing predominantly on 14-16 year olds. I have trained and assessed students on NVQ programmes as well as taught centre based qualifications in colleges. I now run and teach on the diploma courses that we offer here, as well as teaching private clients in the riding school. I currently hold the BHS SM qualification, my Certificate in Education and the D34 and D32 and D33 awards.

Becky Crick

Centre Manager. Having previously spent time travelling and working with horses  in New Zealand, Australia and America, I have now worked at Brimington Equestrian Centre for three years. Before working and travelling abroad I studied for a BSc in Animal Behaviour Science, a PgDip in Animal/Equine Spinal Manipulation and for my BHS AI qualification. I also hold the A1 Assessor award and the PGCE certificate. I am currently training for my BHS Stage 4 exam.

Sian Somerset-Hobson

Instructor.  I have always been a keen rider in all disciplines, having competed both locally and nationally in show jumping, dressage, cross country and showing classes. In 2005 I began British eventing and have competed up to Novice level, including Chatsworth International and more recently I have qualified for the British Riding Championships in Sept 2012. I am also a keen huntswoman and will be hunting again next season with the four shires. Here at Brimington I am running the Pony Club on a Monday night as well as teaching clients in the riding school on various days. I am currently working towards the BHS AI qualification. 

Victoria Chisell

Freelance instructor. Over the last 18 years I have held various roles within the equine industry, including; yard manager on a hunt yard, groom/rider on a dressage yard, and an eventing yard. For the last 12 years I have focussed on my teaching and have experience coaching beginners through to intermediate riders, I have run jumping and dressage clinics on various yards and with riding societies. I have been working within a riding school environment alongside training my private clients for the past 5 years, and in November 2013 I joined Brimington Equestrian Centre as an instructor. I am a BHS/ABRS registered instructor and hold the BHS 1& 2 qualifications, the NVQ Level 1, 2, 3 and the UK Coaching Certificate Level 2. I am presently near completion of a level 3 certificate in assessing vocational achievement, including PTLLS. I then intend to become a BHS riding and road safety officer.

Louise Redihough

Instructor/Groom. Having 10 years riding experience, I have also recently completed my Level 3 Extended Diploma in Equine Care here at ACE Animal Equine

Education and Training
Ltd. I am now employed on a part time basis as a groom/instructor. I also completed the level 3 Certificate/Advanced Certificate in Equine Transport the Intermediate/Advanced Certificate in horse care, level 2 in Health and Safety with horses and the BHS riding and road safety qualification during my studies at Brimington. I have previously completed my NVQ 1 & 2 in horse care and a first diploma in Horse Care. In my current role I mainly look after the horses, carrying out everyday yard duties, riding and exercising the horses, whilst also teaching a growing number of beginner clients.

Karen Lomax

TutorI have owned animals of my own since the age of 7 and started working part time at the RSPCA whilst in my final year at school, and went to work there full time after completing my college course. I qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 1997 and to date I have worked in 3 different veterinary practices, one of them 'mixed', the other two small animal practices. After qualifying as a VN I then started teaching and have taught for three different training centres and four different colleges, I have 16 years experience of teaching Animal Care.

Kate Johnston

Instructor/Groom. I am a recent graduate from Nottingham Trent University with a Bsc Equine Sports Science degree. Prior to this I achieved a FdSc degree in Sports Horse Management and Training. I have obtained my BHS stage I and Riding and Road Safety and am training for the BHS Stage II exam, which I hope to take in the new year. I am very interested in teaching and have had teaching experience both at university and in a teaching role at a summer camp in the USA Summer 2012 as well as assisting with Pony Club camp and other Pony Club activities.  I have 2 horses of my own. I started my current role at BEC in December 2013.

Michelle Gyte

Groom. Having only recently entered the equine world this is my first role in the industry and through my time here I hope to develop my knowledge of both horse care and riding and to gain several related qualifications. I work part time on the yard, looking after and caring for the horses and carrying out everyday yard tasks. Since starting here in November 2011 I have achieved the Level 2 Health and Safety with Horses award, the Level 1 and Level 2 in Land Based Studies (Horse Care). I also hold the BHS Riding and Road Safety certificate.
